Jewels That Dance is excited to announce the arrival of a rare new gemstone. This gemstone is the lotus garnet. Unearthed in the Mahenge region of north Tanzania, lotus garnet was recently discovered in late 2015. Found in alluvial mines, the amount of rough is unknown and each production is small and has a variation in color with every pocket produced. The gemstone is a rare form of an orange-pink garnet similar to the color of morganite or imperial topaz. Lotus garnet, when viewed in the sunlight, has a slight fluorescence which can give the gemstone the appearance of color change. Stop by today to take a look at this new gemstone.

What is a Gemstone Round table?
It is part education, part treasure hunt and all fun. The recipe is simple. Begin with the company of interesting people, add good food and drink, sprinkle liberally with loose colored gemstones, and garnish with the lore and history of each stone.
How does it work?
Remember when you were a kid and called dibs on something you liked? That’s what happens at a Collectors’ Round table. Guests call “dibs” on their favorite stones.
You can purchase an heirloom-quality gemstone in a wide range of prices and discuss jewelry design at the Round table, but there is no pressure to buy.
We want you to have a good time, learn more about your favorite gemstones, and experience nature’s masterpieces in ways few people ever do.
Why is it fun?
This is literally a hands-on event. The gems are passed around the table while Jim shares information about each gem’s history, nuances, and the intricacies of its cut.
It’s a unique opportunity to learn more about these natural wonders.
Tucson or bust …
Tucson or bust … for two weeks every year, in late January and early February, Tucson becomes the number one playground for the world of international gem and mineral trading. The “Gem Show” sounds like a single site, but the Tucson Gem, Mineral and Fossil Showcase happens all across Tucson at more than 40 sites. This year I traveled to Tucson to explore the offerings of some of the finest stonecutters and gem dealers in the world. Among my favorites was the exhibit hall featuring the stonecutters from the Idar-Oberstein region of Germany. Here gemstones come to life carved in the images of flowers, animals, abstract art – almost anything one can imagine. The beauty of the gemstones and artistry of the cutters meld and inspire a myriad of ideas about jewelry design. Watch for Paula’s new creations later this year!
As well as attending the stone shows, I visited the JCK design jewelry show. Here I was able to see the work of new and upcoming jewelry designers and well as visit with a few of my favorite designers who we represent at Jewels That Dance. Keep an eye out for the new work of Alishan, Barbara Heinrich and Todd Reed next time you visit the store.. Carol

Jewels That Dance Is A Favorite – Both Nationally and in WNC!
Two Awards Confirm That Jewels That Dance Is A Favorite – Both Nationally and in WNC!
Asheville has known for years that Jewels That Dance is a winner. This summer that has been officially confirmed – both nationally and locally.
Jewels That Dance was named a top ten jewelry-designer retailer this summer at JCK Las Vegas, the jewelry industry’s premier event. The Asheville-based jewelry store shared honors with jewelry designers from Chicago, New York City, Houston, Indianapolis and Washington D.C.
“We were thrilled to be named one of the top jewelry-designer businesses,” said co-owner Carol Schniedewind. “And it was especially gratifying because we were – by far – the smallest city listed on the list.”
The annual JCK Las Vegas event is open to all jewelry professionals in North America. Each year, the industry gathers the latest awe-inspiring designers working in jewelry today . . . and to honor top members of the profession.
As if a big national award was not enough, Jewels That Dance has been named Best Jewelry Store in WNC by the Mt. Xpress Readers poll — for the thirteenth year!
“While we were pleased to win the JCK national award this summer,” said Carol Schniedewind, “it is even more gratifying to be honored locally.”
More than 8,000 Mt. Xpress readers cast ballots in this year’s 20th annual Best of WNC competition.
